The impromptu talk
The extemporaneous speech is prepared in content and structure but not in wording. The major portion of what is to be said, the actual words or sentences that the audience will hear, are left to the speaking situation itself. It requires talking on your feet. It involves memorizing or jotting down a few of the ideas on a card. It involves less risk of forgetting than the completely memorized talk. It involves careful preparation and so is more inviting to 'inspiration' than the blank brain of the impromptu speaker.
The impromptu talk is the one delivered without preparation. Beginners should not attempt this type of delivery. They feel that they could do better if everything is left to the 'inspiration of the moment'. The difficulty is, the moment for talking will arrive and the inspiration may not!
Please do not speak off-hand. It will only be a loud thinking and not public speaking.
